ASAHI Gladius® 0.014: Polymer-Jacketed Peripheral Guidewire from Simple Stenosis to Occluded Lesions

The ASAHI Gladius® 0.014 is a polymer-jacketed 0.014 in peripheral guidewire with a 3.0 gf tip — a soft wire built to treat a broad range of cases from simple stenosis to occluded lesions, with ACT ONE core retention and a balanced support shaft for tortuous vessels and crossover approaches.

What Is the ASAHI Gladius® 0.014?

The ASAHI Gladius® 0.014 is a polymer-jacketed peripheral guidewire from Asahi Intecc, designed to treat a broad range of cases — from simple stenosis to occluded lesions — on a single 0.014 in platform. Its 3.0 gf tip load gives moderate penetration while keeping soft-wire behaviour, so one wire can serve everyday peripheral work as well as more resistant lesions.

ACT ONE construction retains the core wire at a high level, which is what preserves torque response when the wire is working inside occluded lesions or across multi-vessel anatomy. The polymer jacket with hydrophilic coating keeps friction low so the wire crosses even calcified lesions and fibrous occlusions quickly.

Technical Specifications

The Gladius 0.014 has a 0.014 in (0.36 mm) outer diameter, a 3.0 gf tip load and a 3 cm radiopaque distal segment. The tip is factory pre-shaped with a 1 mm curve — easier and more consistent than manual shaping — and is also offered straight for operators who prefer to shape their own. Coating is polymer jacket plus hydrophilic.

Usable lengths are 200, 235 and 300 cm, with each length available in pre-shaped and straight tip configurations — six catalog codes in total.

Clinical Applications

The design brief for the Gladius 0.014 is breadth: a soft wire whose moderate tip load and core-wire retention let it move from simple stenoses to occluded lesions and multi-vessel cases without a wire exchange.

The balanced support shaft transmits push force smoothly and the smooth jacketed shaft design suits tortuous vessels and crossover approaches, where friction against the vessel wall and sheath would otherwise absorb the operator’s push.

Technique Tips

The factory 1 mm pre-shape removes the variability of manual tip shaping — select the pre-shaped configuration where a standard curve fits the target anatomy, and reserve the straight configuration for cases needing a custom shape.

Choose the usable length to the access strategy: 200 cm for standard work, 235 or 300 cm where crossover access or catheter exchanges demand extra wire outside the patient.
