ASAHI Gladius® 0.018: Enhanced Device-Delivery Peripheral Guidewire with Shaft Support and Maneuverability

The ASAHI Gladius® 0.018 is a polymer-jacketed 0.018 in peripheral guidewire with a 4.0 gf tip — the enhanced device-delivery member of the Gladius line, combining great shaft support and maneuverability with soft-wire versatility from simple stenosis to occluded lesions.

What Is the ASAHI Gladius® 0.018?

The ASAHI Gladius® 0.018 brings the Gladius concept to the 0.018 in peripheral platform as an enhanced device-delivery wire with great shaft support and maneuverability. Like its 0.014 in counterpart, it is a polymer-jacketed soft wire built for a broad range of cases, from simple stenosis to occluded lesions.

Its 4.0 gf tip load provides moderate penetration for the 0.018 in class, and ACT ONE construction retains the core wire at a high level for dependable torque response in occluded-lesion and multi-vessel procedures.

Technical Specifications

The Gladius 0.018 has a 0.018 in (0.45 mm) outer diameter, a 4.0 gf tip load and a 4 cm radiopaque distal segment. The tip comes factory pre-shaped with a 1 mm curve or straight, and the coating is polymer jacket plus hydrophilic.

Usable lengths are 200, 235 and 300 cm, each in pre-shaped and straight configurations — six catalog codes in total.

Clinical Applications

The 0.018 in format is the device-delivery workhorse of the Gladius line: the larger-diameter balanced support shaft transmits push force efficiently, giving stable delivery of 0.018 in-compatible balloon and device systems while the jacketed soft tip keeps lesion crossing atraumatic.

The polymer jacket with hydrophilic coating crosses calcified lesions and fibrous occlusions quickly, and the smooth shaft design suits tortuous vessels and crossover approaches where friction would otherwise defeat push transmission.

Technique Tips

Use the factory pre-shaped tip where a standard 1 mm curve fits the anatomy; the straight configuration remains available for custom shaping. The 4 cm radiopaque segment gives a long visual reference for tip position during crossing.

Choose 200 cm for standard access, and 235 or 300 cm where crossover approaches or device exchanges require additional working length outside the patient.
