ASAHI CHIKAI®Product Code (REF): WAIN-CKI-200
ASAHI CHIKAI® is Asahi Intecc's primary neurovascular microguidewire, engineered specifically for the demands of intracranial navigation where vessel diameters are small, tortuosity is extreme, and even minimal tip force can cause dissection or perforation. The wire's 0.014 in (0.36 mm) outer diameter is compatible with the full range of neurovascular microcatheters, and its 170 cm hydrophilic coating — nearly the full working length — provides low-friction advancement through the cerebral vasculature from the internal carotid artery to distal M2/M3 and anterior communicating branches. The CHIKAI's defining clinical characteristic is its steerable tip response: the wire transmits rotation predictably enough to allow superselective navigation to small branches while maintaining the soft tip compliance needed to avoid vessel wall injury. It is used as the primary access wire for aneurysm coiling (guiding the microcatheter to the aneurysm sac), AVM embolization, intracranial stent and flow diverter delivery, and parent-vessel protection during complex neuro procedures. The round-curve tip variant (WAIN-CKI-200-RC) provides a pre-formed deflection that aids navigation around sharp vessel turns without requiring manual tip shaping. CHIKAI is available in 200 cm and 300 cm lengths in both straight and round-curve tip shapes.
Available under product codes WAIN-CKI-200, WAIN-CKI-200-RC, WAIN-CKI-300, WAIN-CKI-300-RC.

Request DocumentationFrequently Asked Questions
- What is ASAHI CHIKAI® and what procedures is it used for?
- ASAHI CHIKAI® is a 0.014 in steerable neurovascular microguidewire with 170 cm hydrophilic coating, used for superselective navigation through the intracranial vasculature. Primary applications include: guiding microcatheter positioning for cerebral aneurysm coiling, AVM embolization, intracranial stent delivery (LVIS, LVIS Jr), flow diverter deployment (FRED, FRED X), and parent-vessel wire protection during complex neuro procedures.
- What are the catalog numbers for ASAHI CHIKAI®?
- ASAHI CHIKAI® is available in four configurations: WAIN-CKI-200 (Straight, 200 cm), WAIN-CKI-200-RC (Round curve, 200 cm), WAIN-CKI-300 (Straight, 300 cm), WAIN-CKI-300-RC (Round curve, 300 cm). All have a 0.36 mm (0.014 in) outer diameter, 30 cm coil length, 5 cm radiopaque length, and 170 cm hydrophilic coating.
- What microcatheters are compatible with ASAHI CHIKAI®?
- ASAHI CHIKAI® is compatible with all standard 0.014 in neurovascular microcatheters, including the full MicroVention Headway family (DUO, 17, 21, 27), VIA microcatheters, Scepter balloon catheters, and Terumo VTrak / XT17 microcatheters. It is also compatible with the Asahi FUBUKI long sheath system.
- What is the difference between ASAHI CHIKAI® and CHIKAI® black?
- ASAHI CHIKAI® (standard) is the primary-access wire with a soft, steerable tip optimized for superselective navigation without vessel wall trauma. CHIKAI® black increases tip firmness and adds a 150 cm polymer jacket for greater microcatheter delivery support when the standard wire lacks pushability through tortuous intracranial anatomy. CHIKAI black is available in round-curve and 90° angled tip shapes for more distal or angulated access routes.
- When should I use CHIKAI® X 010 instead of standard CHIKAI®?
- CHIKAI® X 010 (0.010 in, 0.26 mm) is used when the target vessel is too small for a 0.014 in wire — typically in M2/M3 MCA branches, distal anterior cerebral artery, or other fine intracranial vessels distal to the circle of Willis where a 0.014 in wire would oversize the lumen and risk wall contact or spasm.
